27/1/23 International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the ABAQ

The Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance organized the event “MEMORY 10 x 10 THE STUMPING STONES” curated by Elisabetta Sonnino.

dr. Benedetto Ligorio, Ph.D. Post Doc Sapienza University of Rome will present his contribute to the International Hoslocaus Remembrance Day: “Gli ebrei d’Abruzzo in Età Medievale, Moderna e Contemporaa. Lo Status Quaestionis”.

The initiative will take place on 27 January 2023 from 10:00 to 13:00 at the Theater of the Academy of Fine Arts in L’Aquila and has as its main theme the theme of memory spread through the memorial largest in the world: that of the stumbling blocks created in 1992 by the German artist Gunter Demning.

Precisely to give strength and incisiveness to the main theme of the morning, the testimonies of the relatives of the victims of the Nazi deportation which also took place on our territory are foreseen and to whom some stumbling blocks are dedicated. The first, located in Abruzzo on 12 January 2012, is located in Piazza Duomo in L’Aquila in memory of Giulio Della Pergola, a trader from L’Aquila who was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp where he died on 30 January 1944; the others are located in Roio Piano to remember the brothers Annina and Luigi Santomarrone, deported to the concentration camps of Ravensbruk and Dachau from where they would never return, guilty of having hosted in their home English prisoners who escaped from the Nazi army.

Artists, historians and art critics will also intervene to talk about the art of memory and research on the Jewish presence in Abruzzo

There will also be representatives of ANPI (National Association of Partisans of Italy) and ANED (National Association of ex-deportees) who will illustrate the activity and the social and educational role of the associations.

Participation is open to all and it is also possible to follow through the Youtube channel of the Academy of Fine Arts.
